The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament is held annually in Stamford, CT, and is the oldest and largest crossword event. It is directed by Will Shortz, the crossword editor of The New York Times. Solvers race to complete a series of puzzles specially commissioned from top puzzlemakers.
One clue from the puzzle (in bold and marked with an *) refers to the botanical name of a plant. The winner of the contest will be the first person who correctly determines the botanical name (genus and species) of this plant.
