- A coupon which is redeemable on an internet web site. An online coupon can be obtained on a coupon site or through an offline source. Online coupons can be redeemed in several ways: 1) by clicking on a coupon link which directs the user to a special page where the offer or discount is located, 2) by clicking on an embedded coupon link which directs the user to the merchant's site and sets the discount code in the form of a cookie or 3) by use of a coupon code, which is pre-programmed on the merchant's site to issue the applicable discount at check out.
