From Gr. κ�βε�νη�ικ�� (kybernetikos) "good at steering, good pilot", (kybernetike techne: "the pilot's art", from Gr. κ�βε�νι�μ��, κ�βέ�νη�ι� (kybernismos, kybernesis) "steering, pilotage, guiding", from κ�βε�νά� (kybernao) "to steer, to drive, to guide, to act as a pilot". The term first recorded in English in 1948.
