  1. A fight involving a large number of people, fought until one person (or sometimes faction) is left standing.
  2. (professional wrestling) A type of professional wrestling match involving multiple participants. The match starts with all the participants in the ring, and the goal is to eliminate opponents by throwing them out of the ring or by achieving some other objective. The winner is the last man remaining in the ring.
  3. vulgar A battle or bout at cudgels or fisty-cuffs, wherein more than two persons are engaged: perhaps from its resemblance, in that particular, to more serious engagements fought to settle royal disputes.
