Etymology
Middle English < Old English monaþ|m�nað < Proto-Germanic *mænoth- < Proto-Indo-European *me(n)ses- (moon, month), probably from PIE base *mê- (to measure), referring to the moon�s phases as the measure of time. Cognate with moon.
