Complete Definition of "handcuffs"

rfv|My intuition said this is not a plurale tantum but merely usually used in the plural. Every dictionary I've checked agrees and lists it under the singular "handcuff". Attributively it is always singular ("handcuff key" etc)

Either from Anglo-Saxon handcops, hand (�hand�) + cosp (cops = �fetter�) or from English hand + cuff.
