Etymology
Old English anger, angre (affliction, anger) < Icelandic angr (affliction, sorrow); akin to Danish anger (regret), Swedish anger (regret), Old English ange (oppressed, sad), Latin angor (a strangling, anguish), angere (to strangle), Greek άγ�� (to strangle), Sanskrit amhas (pain), and to (anguish, anxious, quinsy), and perhaps awe (ugly). The word seems to have originally meant "to choke", "squeeze".
