| Word of the
Week--"Word" |
Definition--a spoken term
|
| Discussion--Since this site is
dedicated to words, "word" seems like an appropriate selection for this
week's article.
The word is one of the most basic elements of language. Each word
contains a specific idea or grammatically links other words together in
phrases or sentences.
We use words to communicate all sort of different concepts, be they
simple or complex, literal or abstract. Words can direct us, inspire us,
spur us on to action and evoke powerful emotions. They are used in
literature, in business, in the media and in our everyday conversations.
|
| Etymology--The term word can
be traced to Old English from about 725 in Beowulf.
