- (computing) The ASCII character at the decimal position of 124, depicted as , or ¦; used in mathematics to show an absolute value (e.g. <math>, x, </math>), norms (e.g. <math>, , (x_1,x_2), , </math>), set definitions (e.g. <math>{x, x<2\}</math>), conditional probability (e.g. <math>P(X, Y)</math>), and divisibility (e.g. <math>a , b</math>); in Unix, it is used as a pipe; in regular expressions, it indicates an alternation.
