  1. (context, typography) a mark consisting of three periods, with spaces inbetween, before, and after them ( . . . ), used in printing to indicate an omission.
  2. (context, grammar) the omission of a grammatically required word or phrase that can be implied.
He is faster than she. (Here, a trailing "is fast" is omitted, grammatically required, and implied.)
