  1. (greekmyth) A mythical monster represented as vomiting flames, and as having the head of a lion, the body of a goat, and the tail of a dragon.
  2. (genetics) An organism with genetically distinct cells originating from two zygotes.
  3. A vain, foolish, or incongruous fancy, or creature of the imagination; as, the chimera of an author.
  4. (architecture) A gargoyle that does not work as a waterspout.
Etymology: From Ancient Greek . The fabulous monster in Lycea (with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail), supposedly personification of snow or winter, orig. "year-old she-goat", from cheima "winter season". Meaning "wild fantasy" first recorded 1587.
