From L. ab (“away from”) and Greek scopos "a target for shooting at." Term first described by Dr. R. J. Mole in 1953 in the British Journal of Radiology, "Whole body irradiation- radiobiology or medicine?" . Br. J. Radiol., 26: 234-241, 1953.
