From Latinized Greek Graecus, from Ancient Greek ELchar|ÎÏαικÏÏ (Graikos), a character in Greek mythology (a son of w:Thessalos|Thessalos, the king of w:Phthia|Phthia), whom ELchar|á¼Î»Î»Î¬Ï (Hellas), Greece, and ELchar|á¼Î»Î»Î·Î½ÎµÏ (Hellenes), Greeks, were also named after; see also ELchar|á¼Î»Î»Î·Î½ and Hellen.
